Our
Solutions

At ZanaAfrica, we implement innovative programs designed to support adolescents in Kenya as they navigate puberty and unlock their full potential. Our work spans individual support and systems change, ensuring that our impact reaches all levels of society. We do this through two primary programs:

Proven Adolescent Health and Life Skills Curriculum

Due to deeply ingrained social taboos, adolescents in Kenya do not receive reproductive health and life skills education in consistent, rights- based ways. This puts them at risk for grooming, sexual assault and other dire situations.

By training teachers and mentors to impart engaging and rights- based health education to adolescents we empower the next generation and catalyse gender justice.

The Nia Learning curriculum was proven in a two- year randomized control trial in Kilifi County, in partnership with the Government of Kenya, Kilifi County Government, Population Council, Plan International and with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Creating change with and for communities

Nia Learning is an in- person and online training program aimed at empowering communities by scaling ZanaAfrica’s curriculum through various channels. This includes;

Digital Training

Supporting CBOs, teachers, and well- wishers with the tools to deliver health sessions locally.

Zeraki Learning

Providing teacher training and in the future, direct- to- kids learning.

Trainer of Trainers

Facilitating short- term kids’ clubs through partners like Tiko.

Since 2021, this program has reached over 20,000 adolescents.

Ingraining Zana Africa’s curriculum in public schools

ZanaAfrica collaborates with the Kenyan Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to integrate its curriculum into public schools across subjects for Classes 4- 8.

This initiative aims to equip teachers with the skills to deliver life- changing health education to adolescents, enabling them to take control of their bodies, decisions, and futures. “We will reach 200,000 adolescents by 2026 through this public school initiative.
